Brendan Taman

General Manager
On January 21, 2010, Taman was introduced as the Roughriders new General Manager. He joined the Riders in June of 2009 when he came on board as the Director of Football Administration.

Prior to returning to his home province of Saskatchewan to work for the Green and White, Taman spent ten years working in the Winnipeg Blue Bomber organization, the last five of which were as the team’s General Manager and Vice-President of Football Operations. During his time in Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers made the playoffs seven times, played in the divisional finals four times and made two Grey Cup appearances.

Taman, a native of Saskatoon brings forth a wealth of football knowledge to the Roughriders after being a part of the CFL for over 20 years.

With the Green and White, Taman is responsible for the football operations of the organization on a number of levels including – scouting, recruiting, negotiating contracts, evaluating free agent talent in the CFL and NFL as well as overseeing the CFL Canadian Draft, administrating and following CFL guidelines and policies.

Over the course of his career, Taman has brought a number of noteworthy players into the CFL. Among those are Geroy Simon, Arland Bruce, Charles Roberts, Romby Bryant, Khari Jones, Doug Brown and drafting players such as Gavin Walls and Jon Ryan. Among the players Taman brought into the league, five were selected as finalists for the CFL Rookie of the Year award, with three of them winning the title.

Taman spent the 1997 and 1998 seasons as the Director of Player Personnel with the B.C. Lions. Before that, he spent four seasons (1993-1996) as Assistant Director of Player Personnel with the Roughriders. From 1989-1992, Taman was Operations Manager for Football with the Ottawa Rough Riders. His first stint in the CFL was with the Green and White in 1987 when he was hired as a player personnel assistant.





Craig Smith

Director of Player Personnel
Smith is entering his first season with the Green and White as he joins the team as the Director of Player Personnel.

Previous to joining the Riders, Smith spent a total of eight seasons with the B.C. Lions in a capacity of roles within their player personnel department. He entered the CFL in 1999 when he first joined the Lions as a guest coach. Smith also spent three seasons as the director of player personnel for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2005-2007 before returning to the Lions for the 2008 season as a scout.

Craig and his wife Cathy now make Regina their year-round home.

 

Ivan Gutfriend
Athletic Therapist

Gutfriend is entering his 33rd season as the team’s athletic therapist.

He has been with the Roughriders since 1978, and was named head athletic therapist in 1981.

Gutfriend is responsible for the day-to-day treatment and rehabilitation needs of all Roughrider players and coaches. He also oversees programs designed to maintain the team’s health and welfare.

Gutfriend received undergraduate degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and completed a Masters degree in Athletic Training from Indiana University. He is a certified athletic therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association.

Ivan and his wife Marie Anne live in Regina year round and have two daughters, Dori and Brandi.

   

 

Gordon Gilroy
Equipment Manager

Gilroy is entering his second season as the Equipment Manager for the Green and White. He was a part of the equipment team for the previous four years under long time equipment manager Norm Fong.

Gilroy was born and raised in Regina and is a graduate of Thom Collegiate.

   

Joe Womack
Director of U.S Scouting

Womack begins his fourth season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  This season Womack will shift his focus to the scouting and recruitment of players throughout the United States as Director of U.S. Scouting. The Baton Rouge native has spent the last three seasons as the Director of Player Personnel for the Green and White and also worked as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. With his new role, Womack will be based out of the U.S. and travel throughout the country evaluating and recruiting U.S talent.

Womack brings the Riders a wealth of football knowledge after spending the last 36 years in the business. Most recently, Womack has spent the past eight years scouting in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, and the NFL Combine.

Womack joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a scout in 1982. He moved on to work at the CFL office as the Director of Scouting in the mid-1980’s. Womack also served as the Director of College Scouting for the B.C. Lions in the 1990’s.
